While down in Wanaka I headed up the hill to Cardrona NZ one day and the wether was looking bad. I did a quick surf check and saw Porridge in Southland was pumping. I quickly rang Nick Raply and made a impulse decision to jump in the car. We boosted the 4 hour drive ran over the farm land you have to cross to acces the brake and came across this perfect line up with 2 guys out! This ended up being the icing on the cake for the trip!
After Christchurch and Dunedin Bevan and I headed to Wanaka to ride Cardrona NZ. I stayed in Wanaka for 2 weeks and headed up Cardrona early every day. The New small jump line is so fun! There are so many activities to do after riding and I ended up trying to clock them all. I got to catch up with heaps of mates and share a few turns a beers. Was an awesome trip I cant wait to go back in spring.
After an awesome time hanging in Chch I hoped on a bus to Dunedin. To catch up with my shredding buddy Bevan Hall, he has been studying down in Dunedin and living the scarfie dream. We was flat out studying but was kind enough to lend me his car while he went to school. Dunedin is an amazing place for surfing! You can surf nearly every day on almost all swell directions! Its cold but if yo suit up in the right gear you stay out for 2 plus hours. We surfed St kilda a few times and made it out Arrows twice. My favourite spot was Allans we did the hike in hike out and scored it soooo good!
Im studying Full time in Auckland now so my window of opportunity for shredding is smaller. For this trip I had 3 weeks off for mid semester brake. I decided to head to Wanaka to pack in as much snowboarding as I could and sneak in a bit of surfing on the way. My first stop was Christchurch to get some surfing in with my little bro Mike and my cousin Nessa. We managed to surf Magnet Bay and Scarborough. I then hooked up with an old buddy Piers Harding and we rolled out to Taylor’s Mistake and scored 2-3 foot fun waves.
For the Easter holiday we booked a Bach in Ahipara. The access to the Bach was challenging you needed a 4 wheel drive and the access was tidal meaning it had to be 4 hours either side of low tide. The Bach was very ‘kiwi’ and made for an awesome unique trip. We managed to score ‘Super tubes’ after 2 days of waiting and it was well worth it. Thanks to all the crew that made the trip so fun!
It was a long weekend in Auckland and we headed to Northland on a Camping surf mission. We ended up staying in NZ most northern camp ground when a cyclone hit! As we were staying in tents it was one of the longest nights of my life. The next day we woke to perfect weather and had an amazing trip with a fun little crew.
